The great Buddhist temple of Swayambhunath is situated on a small hill top to the north – west from Kathmandu Durbare. This temple is well famous due to its religions and cultural importance’s. Swayambhunath area is beautiful natural and cultural site. There are number of old trees which provide habitat for hundreds of monkeys. The Buddhist pilgrims from around the world come to visit and worship swayambhunath as their god. Swayambhunath is taken as creator as well as destroyer in Buddhism.
There is a continues series of prayer wheels around the central stupa. Each prayer wheel carries the sacred Mantra “Om Mani Padme Hum”. Both Buddhist and hind people visit this area irrespectively. Geophysical status of this hill is weak. There is a continuous series of soil erosion. Department of Archeology has prepared a master plan to conserve and promote the area.
